Chalk art

So someone asked if I’d participate in some chalk drawing that was going on over at a nearby Elementary School.  A couple local artists came by and did their thing to celebrate the contest the kids are going to be doing here pretty soon called Reflections. I use to do those art contests back when i was in School and I loved those things. So I had to go show my support and do some art. I’ve never done any chalk drawing before, it’s always fun trying new ways to draw. My Draw night buddy Jon Diesta gave me the tip to wrap my fingers with masking tape for the blending. It helped a lot and added quite a lot to the piece. It was a little intimidating at first laying down the chalk but once ya get a feel for what the chalk can do you just run with it. The knight is supposed to be wearing a helmet with horns, but yeah, it looks like a Cowboy hat, ah well. It took me exactly 2 hours start to finish.
A few people mentioned I’ll be giving kids nightmares with this thing, to which I said “BAH, whatever!” The only reason I chose to draw a Dragon was because that’s pretty much all I drew as a kid. So if I dug it as a kid, I bet these kids might like it too. Here’s some photos for ya.

Cowboy knight!

That’s awesome! I don’t think I’ve ever seen chalk art this good. I guess liking dragons helps.

I like the blending as it makes it look distinct from other art forms like pencil, ink, sharpie, paint, etc. Now i’m looking up chalk art in google. Cool stuff.

You are so good at everything you do. That dragon picture is amazing and to think you’ve never done that before. I love the shading and that the dragon is blue. I love it. You can draw on my sidewalk anytime you want. Thank you for sharing!

It’s cool to see you draw a picture in something you have never done. Man, you should try other things like spray paint, water color, and something else. Do a theme week next month.. Every week, try something different. I bet it would be cool. Think about it.
Halloween is coming up. Could you do a Halloween back ground since you have been doing backgrounds lately? Thanks for the cool posts man!

One more thing.. Have you ever considered doing art for Magic the Gathering the card game. It would be sick if you could do like one or two cards for them. Check them out man.

Think i might go down there with a pick axe and dig it out the ground… might have a little bit of trouble framing it though!?

Check out this cool chalk art.

too cool, Ryan. If I was a kid at that elementary school, my tiny oversized head would burst with awesome and little bits of brain matter.
