Big space ship
Ok so I had to draw up the cover to 39 of Invincible and I did some sketches and Robert and I decided on what we wanted, then I went for it. And I couldn’t do it. I started on it and it just looked like complete crap, so I scrapped that one and drew it again, and that time it was going good until this dork artist I know that was over drawing with me in my studio pointed out that it wasn’t very dramatic having a big ship flying RIGHT at you. And …he was right. SO I drew a bunny on top of the ship, scrapped the drawing and started over. This time I chose a good angle and started going and I really tried to make the ship seem huge and open, I hope you all think I pulled it off ok. Let me know. And if you’d like to see my layout and pencils for this cover just click here . Later.

Damn ryan man. this is awesome. but I kinda wanna see the one with the bunny on it. anyway, really nicely done.
the only thing I see that bugs me a little is on the left side of the page on the upper part of the ship. some of the detail lines there look a little wierd like the paper shifted while you inked or something. but other then that. its kick ass.
the other bit about the layout that I would suggest is about the ships or lack there of. A ship this size is, of course, able to take care of itself. but often has smaller ships flying around close to it in order to scout or intercept incoming targets. at least, I think it works that way. anyhow, just a suggestion. maybe two or three smaller, one man pod ships or something flying around it might add to just how hardcore the ship is. anyway, long post. sorry. keep up the awesome work man!
that rocks my socks =o
Holy shit.
er…poop.
a truly ultimate cover. i might get Invincible 39 for that.
Thanks guys. Hey Matt, you’ll see that bunny ship eventually in the sketch pages of a TPB or something.
And Robert wanted ONE large ship, I asked if I could put in smaller ships but he only wanted one. So THERE, FANCY PANTS!
well then I guess I lose this time. oh well, I guess I’ll just have to tell Robert my opinion if I ever get the chance. but seriously. keep up the kick ass work!

Ooooh! The bunny ship gets is? That means my inks are gonna be in the tpb. Sweet.
I think my exact words were “Holy Shit”, I’ll look for you intergalactic bunny of doom in a later TPB
that’s pretty damn impressive, duder.
Don’t know if I’ve mentioned this elsewhere, but this piece is AMAZING, and I salute the passion you show with every piece.
Great work!

Ryan. I love your art on Invincible.
I just added your blog to my link section at http://www.chrisnoeth.de
Can you tell us how long you worked on the image from first thumbnail to final inks?
Keep up the good work!
Best,
Chris Noeth
Chris,
Well for this cover here, it took one day for pencils, one day for inks. BUT there is those thumbnail sketches and other incomplete covers I did too, so TOTAL time on this cover I’d have to say was 4 days. Which is TOO long. I try to keep covers at 2 days. This one was just a special pain in the butt.

Gotta love those special pains in the butt. It probably took Kirkman, like, ten seconds to write down what he wanted, and then it took you four days to make it a reality. Heh.
The cover is really magnificent. It kind of looks like the ship could be a miniature (miniature?) city what with all the length it has (interconnected roadways inside?) and the numerous sections with all the details (windows, spires, little peninsulas and the like). Amazing stuff.
Ryan,
This is Truely outstanding work. Can’t wait to see what Bill does with this!
