Invincible returns 1 cover

Here’s the cover Erik Larsen and I did for Invincible Returns 1. Had a lot of fun with this one.

Larsen did this pic for Robert at a con one day. And Robert comes to me and says “Yep, I’m gonna have YOU ink it.” I said “hells yes I wills!” And I went to town on it, basically I printed his pencils in blueline then changed what I wanted, added things here and there, just beefing the pic up a bit with a blue pencil, then I inked it. So technically this is a collaboration cover, not really a straight up he drew it, I inked it kinda cover. Tons of fun though, I love drawing over Larsen. I always shrink his fists considerably but they still look huge, and that’s awesome! HAHA!

Good stuff Ryan! Hey, do you have any tips for rendering clouds? They give me fits.

This is, by far, the best of the covers.

The amount of detail you add to this is amazing

Those clouds are beautiful. Why is his left leg dangling down like that? That doesn’t seem aerodynamic. Unless he’s hovering and punching something.

Mark’s costume has yellow in it again? I really need to catch up on Invincible…

gotta love that larsen forced-perspective and angled horizon.

Bassem, this is the cover to the one-shot where the old color scheme is reintroduced, so while you might need to catch up, this isn’t one of the reasons.

It’s always great to see one of these shots of Invincible – the essence of a great comic, right there.
