Joker sketch

Wondercon is over and I had a great time. I’ll post some of my sketches here. I shared a table with the Elephantmen guys, Richard Starkings, Moritat, and JG Roshell at the Image area. Their books look so friggen great, I grabbed a couple issues of Hip Flask and Elephantman, I’m impressed. Anyway JG was kind enough to scan some of my sketches throughout the con, it was nice.

I met some of my favorite artists at this con. Art Adams and Mark Shultz. These guys are so amazing and I felt like a fool talking to them. I am such a nerd fanboy when it comes to some artists. I should just never talk to my favorites. Yeah, that’s a good idea.  But hey I DID get the Aquarus drawing that Art Adams did for the Invincible handbook which I’m really excited about. I’ve always wanted a piece from art and now i do and it’s a character from my own book. Kinda awesome.
You guys gotta see Eric Canete’s new sketchbook, man the thing looks amazing. Go to his link in my links area. NOW.  Pretty darn cool huh? Told ya. If you get a chance, buy one. The guy has got some major energy in those lines.

Speaking of Sketchbooks I’m getting quite the stack of sketches here so I think this might be the year I finally put a sketchbook out. We’ll see. Wish me luck.
Thanks for all the people who came by the booth and kept me busy drawing sketches and commissions the whole con, I had a lot of fun chatting and of course sometimes NOT chatting….I was tired. Sorry.

Yes, good luck on a sketchbook. If that thing comes out I promise I’ll snap it up! Great work.

I was hoping that you would be putting out a sketchbook eventually, I’m a huge fan of your work. It gets my own creative juices flowing when i’m stuck at the drawing table…

I was wondering also about whether you do commissions at all?

    Peculiar…
I like the drawing but for some reason this looks a bit “off” for the joker…
still can’t put my finger on it.

I see what your talking about Mike [ if I may call you that sir ;) ]. Maybe it’s the calmness in the eyes instead of the intensity we’re used to….

Might be that I forgot to fill in the eye brows black. And he might need a pointier nose. And color.

    Thanks guys.

That could be it scribby (if i may call you that ;) ). He looks kind of old too… That said, the Joker is a hard damn character to draw. I’ve tryed to draw him numerous times and i still can’t get him right.

This may be the first time they haven’t all completely kissed your butt over a sketch. I think color would help as well, I can’t draw the Joker for crap and though I try and try I have never drawn a Thor that doesn’t look ridiculous. You guys have any characters you just can’t get right?

I totally agree on thor as well. I could never draw captain america and green lantern has always been difficult also. Spiderman isn’t exactly a walk in the park either, he’s not hard but boy is he tedious to draw (well, the costume is at least).

Hey, great Joker sketch, which reminds me. Have you done a sketch of Batman for this blog yet Ryan? If not I’d love to see your take. We’ve seen Superman, so how about some of the other big gun DC characters?

Also, I’d love to see that Art Adams Aquarus piece you picked up at the show!

Hey, awesome work. The Joker is my favorite character. This guy looks like an older version of the Joker who can still knock the hell out of Batman. Maybe he carries a cane that shoots acid out of the hilt. Anyway good job.
