Octoboss page pencils to inks

Here’s a page from issue 42. I kinda liked it, it was a good one to draw to practice those octopuss tentacles, which are pretty difficult to get right. I’m still trying to get them down to how I like them. I keep my pencils pretty loose and I ink over them with a Staedtler mars 3000 brush pen and Staedtler pens.

The dialogue on this page just had me rolling, his accent really shines through, it’s hilarious.

Octoboss is just a cool villian. I bet he’s a pain for you to draw but you make him look awesome. I saw you do a sketch of him in San Diego I was kinda jealous of that one.

Let me just state that Invincible is the best most fun-loving book in the stands today, thanks to drawings by you, Ryan, and stories that simply kick ass by Mr. Kirkman! Oh, and you gotta love Octo-boss. You just gotta!

Love your stuff man – keep up the great work.

    Fantastic stuff!
One question: Are you inking directly over this loose pencils or is there another step inbetween this two shown images?

    Thx!

    Best,

    Chris

It was JUST AS AWESOME as you would imagine.

Keep up the good work, or I will cry because I have the mind of a child.

Haha, I love the transition from loose pencils to finsished page. BAM!

Of course when you’re used to inking your own stuff pencilling tightly makes inking a little redundant.

    Shweetness!

I have yet to meet you in person during my rounds at the conventions (I work in comics), but I managed to pick up a signed print of “Invincible Dead” just recently. I love it! It’s my favorite piece in my work space. Keep on doin’ what you’re doin’.
