BLUE costume!!! Yes, a little jarring I know. But just breathe, calm down. It’s gonna be ok. I promise.

  2. etzioni says:

    damn that looks cool

oliver goes omni man on mark ah?

  3. steve says:

im loving the new look man,it kicks ass.

  4. Steve B. says:

I like the costume better now that I have seen you draw and not that five second sketch that Jim Lee did. I heart Jim Lee but he could have put a little more time into that, I think.

I like Oliver’s costume, but he seems REALLY thin and long-limbed, more like Stretch Boy than Omni-Boy. Maybe it is just this one drawing, but I hope he doesn’t always look so lanky. Otherwise, its sick looking, keep it up.

  5. Tom says:

I am sorry, I didnt take your advice and I cant breathe…not a fan of the change

  6. vynsane says:

is it a symbiote or did tony stark design it? just kidding, i’m diggin’ the look and can’t wait to see the lead-in to the change.

I don’t mean this in a negative (towards the other artist) way at all, but you’ve done a much better job of making this costume change look good than Mr. Lee did.
This ranks very highly on my list of favorite Invincible covers.

Interesting. I’m curious to see more of it, while still luvin’ the original.
    Great drawing, as alllllways.

    omni-lad!

so yeah. i’m guessing that the vultrimites can get oscar (owen?) on their side. neat. and since he’s getting his powers faster than mark…

  10. ted says:

you know, when i was 12-14ish, i couldn’t stand a comic book character that DIDN’T wear a mask. weird i know.

probably stemming from loving snake eyes so damn much.

however, at this point, most of my favorite drawings of mark have been with his costume on, sans the mask.

half the time it’s beat off of him, anyway. but for example, i loved how he looked when he was laying around on the space-ship, being bored waiting to meet up with his dad. the little v-neck action was just the right touch.

those drawings to me are a little more powerful. you can see facial expressions for real. even though you do take extreme pains to convey a lot of expression through his mouth and implied eye-brows, it’s not the same.

but i guess not everyone can blend into a crowd like a six foot tall slender red-head.

    Very awesome! :D

  12. RONCEVAUX says:

And I love the fact that Oliver is now in the family business !

  13. Eric says:

I’m getting flashback of Electric-Slide Superman

  14. I love what you done with it, but i prefer the original.

  15. Ben says:

I’m digging the new costume, but I miss the old fingerless gloves.

And I KNOW Mark’s just gonna hit Oliver once and Oliver’s gonna start crying and Debbie’s gonna ground Mark.

    Psh. Siblings.

I think I would like the blue costume more were it in context with the stories that will explain its creation. Also, I just can’t get over the fact that in the blue, with the bubble canopies over the eyes, he looks somewhat like Blue Beetle. That’s not necessarily a bad thing though, as I like Blue Beetle, but anyway…

    Another great cover, Ryan!

I love your work, but loathe this design:
    (1) No fingerless gloves.
    (2) Navy-blue lenses? ugh..
    (3) No trademark yellow.
    (4) Highly redundant outfit: I’m sorry, but one single color is just immensely less attractive here, because the costume is simply too basic. If there was more texture to the outfit (e.g. Blue Beetle, which is quite apropos) it could work, but here it just feels lame. I simply refuse to believe the tailor would have accepted this design.

  18. boheim says:

first off; dear mattharvest, write your own comic book that sells lots and then you can make it look however you want.
secondly; i miss the fingerless gloves! if only because of the way you draw your knuckles, Ryan. The new look makes Mark look more all business and less f.o.b. and hopefully this translates into his character a little bit.

  19. mattharvest says:

first off; dear boheim, I’m sorry, I didn’t realize that Ryan’s purpose in posting these pics was for us to just bow at his feet. I was under the apparently mistaken impression that he liked comments both critical and praising.

Maybe you let Ryan tell me if I said something out of line. Until then, why don’t you get off your high horse.

  20. Milad says:

i don’t like the new costume either, but i can live with it… i guess!
but it looks so un-original unlike the last one, no fingerless gloves, normal dc looking boots, meh… i like the lenses though… and oliver reminds me of that kid in incredibles. but i’ll still buy the comics, but i’m gonna love other characters more now :D

  21. No one in particular says:

If he’s on the run from the Govt, why wear a mask at all? And it’s especially pointless if he’s in space fighting aliens, all humans probably look alike.

What I want to know, when is Mark going to hook up with that hot Viltrumite chick that punked him?

  22. John says:

I can live with it. But the original costume is just one of the best designed superhero suits there is. And I think two colors is a little boring. At least a LITTLE yellow wouldn’t have hurt. Hopefully, as RK has hinted it won’t be permanent, it will be very not permanent.
